So those who thought were getting lucky already to get a i7 processor in their new PC. Here's some good NEWS for you lol. i9 Processor (successor to i7) is expected to arrive in the Q1 of 2010. ![]() Intel’s upcoming desktop processor, codenamed Gulftown, will be known as the Intel Core i9 and will be based on the 32 nm Westmere architecture. It will be a 6-core processor with performance enhancing features, including a total 12 thread count, and a 50% increase in L3 cache over Bloomfield, i.e. 12 MB. It will retain compatibility with the existing LGA-1366 socket, and X58 chipset. AFAIK, it won't be available for laptop PC's for some time. Even AMD is launching a 6 core processor called AMD Opteron. ugghh looks like its never a right time to buy a PC.

This is how technology evolves, on daily basis lol. 4 months back I didn't even knew about the i7 core processor when I purchased a Dell Studio 15. And now we would be welcoming i9 in another 4 months. WTF? And when i9 knocks your door, I am pretty sure i12 would be around.

I don't think holding off to buy a new PC is a good idea. In short, every time is a good time to buy a new PC. You can't control companies from innovating and bringing out new technology in their products. It just doesn't happen with a computer but with any electronics item. |

I do not know if you saw the benchmark comparisons for a Polish website, also based on a technical test, and then withdrawn at the request of Intel, but the increase in speed was not 50% but less . Naturally, an engineering test run on the beta becomes the BIOS on the motherboard of the incumbent also allows comparisons at this stage premature.
