Default Nokia N81 Pictures

Nokia N81 Pictures

The Nokia N81 first image leaked almost three months ago, but since then nothing more came up to prove it. Finally, first real hands-on photos appeared, thanks to dummy phones that have appeared in some locations.

The N81 greatly reduces the size when compared to the N80 and now is targeted to the music-fans, packing control keys, stereo speakers and 8GB of internal memory to store tracks on.

Targeted to music, it has 2-megapixel camera instead of improving the 3-megapixel unit of the N80. The top now houses 3.5mm stereo jack for connecting of standard stereo headphones, as it is with the N95 but the bottom has microUSB instead of miniUSB. Strangely, it also has standard Nokia Charging port which must be replaced by the microUSB as it is with the 8600 Luna for example. We expect an official announcement of the Nokia N81 to follow soon.

N81 8GB Slider. Set to be launched 4Q 2007 and running S60v3 FP1, the Nokia N81 is a slider-followup to the N91 8GB Music Edition. It is quad-band EDGE with 2100 HSDPA (yeah, you know what that means), WiFi (b/g w/ uPnP), BT 2.0 with A2DP, and a 3.5mm slot.

It also has "dedicated music and gaming keys," though I was unable to locate them in the photos. It also mentions a "Navi Wheel", but I'm unable to see that, as well.

* Form factor: slide
* Dimensions: 102 x 50 x 17.9 mm
* Weight: ~ 140g
* Memory: 8GB internal flash memory
* Music Playback time: up to 12,5 hours
* Gaming time: up to 3-4 hours
* Talk time: up to 3-4 hours (3G)/3-4 hours(GSM)
* Standby time: up to 15 days
* Main Display: 2.4"QVGA 240Ă—320, 16M colors
* Main Camera: 2Mpix
* Second Camera: CIF

It will be one of the N-gage launch devices, having dedicated gaming keys. I was unable to get any information regarding planned price or battery, unfortunately. Frankly, I'm somewhat underwhelmed by this one. I mean, from the specs, it's really little more than an N91 in a different form factor. What do you think? Do you like the key layout, with the music keys "embedded" in the d-pad sort-of? I'm personally a HUGE fan of the slider form factor, but still can't see myself picking this one up

Default Butterfly Knife-esque CD/MP3 Concept

Butterfly Knife-esque CD/MP3 Concept

MP3s may be the wave of the future, but that doesn't mean we've had the initiative to digitize our CD collection. This Dual Music Player concept is a both a portable MP3 player and a more portable CD player. Unfolding á la butterfly knife, the DMP concept spins your CDs while exposed to the world, but we bet the effect would look pretty wicked (especially when operating the dual purpose, self defense saw function). Yanko commenters recommend the device rips CDs for you. And, while that idea completely makes sense, it also shows how understandably futile the portable CD player market has become. I for one miss the mechanical nature of musical playback. But then again, the near limitless battery life, micro designs and skip-free operation do a lot to make up for my illogical playback preferences.

Default Logitech’s G15 Keyboard with LED Screen for Gamers

Logitech’s G15 Keyboard with LED Screen for Gamers

Keyboards come in different sizes and shapes. One company that is continuously making things more comfortable is Logitech. Recently, the company came up with a wave shaped keyboard and here they are again with a unique keyboard dubbed the G15 that comes with a LED screen.

The keyboard is especially designed for gamers who need a secondary display to monitor all the vital stats of the computer while their game is running. The screen is totally customizable and can display any information you want. Till now there has been no news regarding the price and the availability of the keyboard but considering the innovative minds at Logitech, I don’t think it should take more time to reach the market.

Default USB Flower Fan - Gadget Crap

USB Flower Fan - Gadget Crap

Gadget4All generally has some useful USB gear they sell, but today in my inbox was a USB flower fan that was nothing short of gadget crap. Sorry guys.

Powered by USB or AAA batteries you can clutter up your office space with a pink or green USB flower fan. Granted it’s only $12 to buy, but sometimes it’s just more fun taking random items from around your space and creating something yourself…example: this USB fan.

BUT, if you are looking for a colorful and playful looking fan to prop up on your PC for the kids during the hot summer months, than please reconsider the USB flower fan. Or if you’ve got a lady friend who’s totally into Disney trinkets and anything gay and colorful like that.

USB flower fan product page from Gadget4all. Good luck on this one guys!

Default Wi-Fi Problems? Get The USB Wi-Spy Analyzer

Wi-Fi Problems? Get The USB Wi-Spy Analyzer

Getting odd results off your Wi-Fi network? Maybe getting no results at all? The boss is pissed, co-workers can’t work, what do you do?
Get the Wi-Spy spectrum analyzer, that’s what you do. The Wi-Spy is the world’s smallest 2.4GHz spectrum analyzer and is specifically designed for troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks. The Wi-Spy records data traces over the wireless network and also plays them back for analysis.

This isn’t the first version of the Wi-Spy, BUT the hardware has been redesigned to increase the frequency and amplitude resolution with an added reverse-polarity SMA adapter. Wi-Spy 2.4x is packaged with a powerful little antenna, so it’s good from the start but it’s also a snap to screw-on any RP-SMA antenna you choose. The Chanalyzer software has been upgraded to version 2.1, which takes full advantage of the higher resolution with improved graphics and an even friendlier user interface.

wi-spy software

Here is a list of items you can expect the Wi-Spy to perform while in operation:

* Increased frequency and amplitude resolution
* Helps you identify wi-fi interference (802.11 b/g/n, microwave ovens, cordless phones, Bluetooth, etc.)
* Frequency range is 2.400 - 2.4835 GHz
* Record/playback data traces
* Frequency/amplitude marker
* Frequency / Wi-Fi / Zigbee channel labels
* Save or copy image to clipboard
* Spectral, Topographic, and Planar Views
* Download Beta version of software for Mac

The Wi-Spy is a little more than you’d expect, but hey…if your job is on the line as the IT manager and you’ve gotta get the problem licked. It’s a fair price.

Default 3M mini-projector making a device debut

3M mini-projector making a device debut

3M developing a small projector, which will enlarge an image from a mobile phone, notebook or any hand held electronic device, and projects it on a large scale onto a wall or floor. This will help you in giving presentations without the hassles of carrying projector or arranging for one. By the way, as per latest developments, the 3M mini-projector is on its way to be embedded in a mobile phone. Samsung has confirmed hat they will be using the 3M mini-projector in one of their devices. Samsung has not specified in which device they are going to use this component. But according to my speculation it will be used in Samsung mobile phones; this will also give an extra edge to Samsung over its competitors, at least for some time. Also, 3M is putting all its efforts to make a good marketplace for innovative products like the mini-projector. They might be even talking to mobile phone OEMs, you never know!!!

Default Asus Lamborghini comes to India

Asus Lamborghini comes to India

After the Vertu and Motorola partnering with Ferrari, its time for the computer company, who has recently moved into mobile phones, has come with the Asus Lamborghini phone and launched it in India. If you don’t know what is a Lamborghini, then please don’t read further. This Asus Lamborghini ZX1 is a PDA that runs Windows Mobile. The phone, which will be coming to India, will have Touchscreen and carbon fiber feeling, the same form that is available in the original Asus phone that was launched in the month of March, this year.

The phone has a wireless 802.11b+g, Bluetooth v2.0+EDR, USB2.0, 3.5G and also a GPS. The Touchscreen is 2.8’’ and it has a 9 way navigational key, that is shaped like the logo, which has the legendary Lamborghini bull inside it. When it comes to cost, it matched with the cost of the Lamborghini car, the phone will retail at $1200, my take, don’t buy this phone, if you [plan to spend $1200, but a Nokia N95 8GB, instead.

Default Impression of the Sony Ericsson W980: a preview

Impression of the Sony Ericsson W980: a preview

The handset that came from the Walkman series has a lot to offer. Many people predicted that the handset will be in the center of attention for quite a while. Some of the features are a huge 8GB of internal memory, a 3 megapixel camera, built-in accelerometer FM transmitter feature and the light effects. Quite impressive isn’t it?

The handset has a sleek and sexy design that is finished in glossy material. However, if it is considered as a problem, you will have to clean your finger each time you use the W890. Some say that the location of the Walkman key is a bit uncomfortable since you have to open the flip to use it.

Let’s talk about the camera. It is clear that the Swedish-Japanese manufacturer didn’t equip the W890 with a worthy camera. The reason I say this is even though the phone has a 3 megapixel camera, Sony Ericsson didn’t equipped the auto focus or flash.

The W980 is the first phone we’ve come across to feature an FM transmitter. The quality of the sound transmitted isn’t strictly Hi-Fi one but it is does the job. A pleasant surprise was that it transfers the artist and the song name via RDS. The FM transmitter does a great job in a car and it can be very useful during a party too. We are pretty sure it will be put to good use in practical jokes.

Since the phone is a Walkman series, the best thing about this phone is (of course) the music features of this handset. The W890 still use the recent Walkman 3.0 player, since it’s still the best music player up until now. As we all might know, the feature boasts a great number of supported file formats and automatically sorts your tracks by various filters. The well known step by step tack filtering is also present here.

Default New: Fuel Cells Technology for Mobile Phones

New: Fuel Cells Technology for Mobile Phones

.
Sony tries to be more eco-friendly as they showed their latest fuel-cell technology at the Small Fuel Cells 2008 conference. They’ve created a tiny fuel cell prototype that was aimed to be used on cell phones. The new system will be commercialized by the company in short time.

It could be a while before you can use your phone for months with just occasional refill of methanol though; there was talk about fuel cells taking over the laptop market for a while now, and we all know how that’s going so far. What’s more, this product is fresh out of the labs.

The specs do look impressive though: with just 10 mL of methanol, this fuel cell can keep a generic mobile phone showing a 1seg (Japan’s video broadcasting service) movie for 14 hours straight. Did I mention how tiny it actually is?

For those who like to get technical, the fuel cell is coupled with an ordinary Li-polymer battery, and can squeeze out a 3 Watt output. It’s a direct methanol type cell (DMFC), meaning liquid methanol comes in, and water and carbon dioxide is produced in the reaction that generates electricity. The excess energy could be used to recharge the battery; everything controlled by the smart chip.
