Default PC - Branded or Assembled ?

So what do you prefer ? Branded or assembled PC's.

I personally prefer assembled PC's over branded as we can get a fully customized one if we go for assembled option. Plus they cost us bit less than branded. Also, different manufacturers have their own specialised peripherals so that we can choose from.

I'd say most technical guys prefer an assembled one as their demands/requirements are different than what one branded PC give to us.

I currently have an LG TFT, iBall mouse/keyboard/headphone, Creative Speakers, Asus motherboard, SONY DVD-RW, Transcend/iBall pendrive.

So.. what do ya prefer?

I think its great !

Though I would say you could have gone for the latest Quad Core processor and why not use Vista Ultimate with this config, spec ? XP is old enough for such configured PC.

NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT TurboCache 512 MB dedicated memory
Now.. I want this

The amount of money i saved from building my own PC was roughly $673. Never again will I buy a PC from now on i'll build my own with those kinds of savings.

Yes, thats the best part of it. It costs much much cheaper than a branded one.

So most of us prefer assembled PC's ! Does anyone know if there a assembled laptop kind of thing ?

At the moment laptops are the only option for me. Desktops are too big and just take up too much space. i also hate being tied to my desk, with my laptops I can move around freely!

I have two computers at home, one desktop computer and one laptop. I use the laptop most of the time, however.

Assembled PC means we custom built our PC. Just like a rock star using only custom built guitar !
Get an ASUS mainboard if you wish to custom built your PC.

i always prefer branded. thats coz assembled PC's have a lot of incompatibility issues. i know you would be thinking that one should know what is compatible with what, but as you know, windows has a mind of its own and thus incompatibility issues are bound to pop up. also another reason is that, in branded PC's a lot of options are available to choose form, so you dont need to take the risk of assembling.

I can only agree that assembled is the way to go. Nothing like having control over what goes inside the box. I agree that the cost saving is nice but for me it is all about the control. I was in a computer store one day to help a friend get a simple easy low level branded system and a salesman tried to tell me that I had no right to see the motherboard in a system because there was nothing I could learn from looking at it! I was amazed at his arrogance and lack of knowledge! Anyway, I took my friend out of there and built them a system that blew their mind.

Instead of buying assembled or Branded PC , one should go for laptops only . Because , now there is not much difference between their prices .

Currently I am using assembled PC but I have seen branded PC at my friend' house and that was definitely better than my pc.

As a reply to Anchor about laptops...

Laptops are not as strong or reliable as desktops...especially if you want to run a server...in my experience laptops are designed to break shortly after the warranty is up. You can check out mobile workstations if you truly want the power of a desktop from a laptop...but you pay a lot for the increased reliability. you also run into problems if just a part of the laptop fails...it ****s to have to get a whole new motherboard just because your audio or network has failed.

Though I do like Desktop computers, but only branded.

The reason is simple, it assures perfect quality and satisfaction unlike assembled PC's.

I voted for Assembled. Why? coz I am using one and I am more than happy with it. Cost of one complete branded PC is a turn off.
