Both are server side languages, but PHP has taken over the market, so learn php.

If you're new to programming then you'll find both equally difficult lol.

Here's the *best* place to start with:

http://www.w3schools.com/PHP/
http://www.w3schools.com/ASPNET/

Also, I believe ASP.Net is the Microsoft solution to server-side scripting so if you work only in M$ then either should be fine but if you also work in Linux/Unix then PHP is the answer for you.

As Said by TaL View Post
Yeah... ASP is Microsoft-driven, and thus you usually need a Windows server to run ASP, whereas PHP is accepted as being cross-platform.

And personally, I do my best to keep my hands away from anything Microsoft. I learned a loooong, long time ago not to put any faith in anything Microsoft has developed.

When you decide to make the investment in Simple PHP, you will be amazed at the simplicity of being able to personalize your pages, put code on games and even use JavaScript with PHP.

As per my view and experience PHP is more better than Asp.net because it is easy to use and easy to learn. It is used for creating dynamic webpages that interact with the user offering customized information. PHP doesn't use a lot of the system's resources so it runs fast and doesn't tend to slow other processes down.

I think ASP.Net is better than PHP, because ASP.NET is powered by .NET framework and it supports silver light, Ajax, WCF, WPF, JavaScript and JQuery technologies.

Advantages of php over asp.net
- Php is open source, easy to download and use.

- Lots of good source code out there to use and/or learn from, as well
as many useful libraries for working with PDFs, graphics, etc.

- Php is platform independent.run in all os.

- Very Easy to understand Syntax and structures of php.

- PHP can be used with a large number of relational database management systems,
runs on all of the most popular web servers.

Both the languages are good. But if I am supposed to choose one of them, I would like to go with ASP.Net as it is easy to learn. Because it is fully object oriented language. You can easily display it on the Linux platform. It is client side scripting language and Java script is used in it. You can easily get the code from the Internet for implementing different functionality for reference.
