Default Change default Primary Usergroup

Hi folks, I've been away for a while, but I'm back, and looking for some more of your great help.

When a new member signs up, and does the email thing, he is listed with a Primary Usergroup of "COPPA Users Awaiting Moderation". I at that time have the ability to Accept or Decline.

In my system, when I accept a new member, his Primary Usergroup becomes "Registered Users". I want to change this. I want all newly accepted members to have a different Primary Usergroup, but don't want to have to go in and do it manually.

I'm sure there has to be a way to do this. Can someone help me figure out how?

Thank you.

You can do this in the register.php file with a manual edit.

Its clearly docuemented in there what its doing so it shouldn't be to hard to find, I dont have one handy or i'd find it for you

As Said by David View Post
I found register.php on my system (the only copy). I looked at it and really thought I had it figured out. It didn't change a thing though. When I "Accept" and then click on "continue" on the "Users Awaiting Moderation" page, it changes their usergroupid to 2 (Registered Users). So I found in resgister.php where it assigns $newusergroupid = 2, and changed that to 19, which is the usergroupid I want to have used. There is one other area where if $newusergroupid == 2, send the welcome email. I tried changing and not changing this to 19. I get the email every time.

So it seems to me that either I am missing something big (or easy) or my system is executing something else when I register members.

Hi Misawa

Did you ever try the Promotions feature of vBulletin?

Forget about any file edits/revert what you had done and try this:-

1. Create your new Usergroup.
2. Let them move to Registered Users group when you Accept them.
3. Then go to admincp -> Usergroups -> Promotions -> Add new Promotion -> and enter following info.
  • Usergroup Registered Users
  • Set Posts to 0
  • Promotion Strategy to Posts
  • Move User to Usergroup Your new Usergroup
and leave other fields as it as, they are not required.

(Obviously if they are just registered, they would be having 0 posts, so Promotion Strategy to Posts->0 would work best.)

I haven't tested all this BUT I think it should work good.

I had been looking at this possibility. I hadn't thought it through completely though. I think you may have done it for me. Thank you.
