Folks,

I've recently added a mobile style and doing some testing. People have been coming up with ideas and suggestions. I'm wondering... is there anyway to have pictures uploaded straight from a cell phone into vBulletin?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi arny,

well.. I have downloaded things but never tried uploading to internet from mobile lol. So you mean you want kinda FTP access to upload files to your vbulletin's server from a mobile. Is that correct?

I am quite sure it isn't possible in a Symbian Series 60 v2 mobile (for eg. a Nokia N70 phone). But there does exist a freeware app for S60 v3 phones called SIC FTP Client.

And if you're using Windows Mobile OS then there are already many FTP apps i guess.

Actually, what I'd like to do is have our Disney fans go to the Disney events or park, take pictures of something and then upload that pic to the boards in a posting, into their album or into a gallery mod. Something like that.

Any suggestions on that?

oh I see! So what you want is to allow the users to use their album within vb, i.e. let them "Browse" to the path of images through their mobile and upload them. Correct?

Well.. I am not 100% sure, but this won't be possible on a Symbian based phone. But should definitely be possible on a PDA/Communicator/Smartphone that runs MS Windows Mobile as that is highly advanced, say an O2 mobile or HTC touch etc, maybe Blackberry too.

So it might depend on few factors such as the phone you have and the OS/browser it runs.

Btw, which phone you have and did you try it once? What was the result?

Depends on their phone model and how their system works.

If they can view your site, and post/reply, and make it to the "Manage Attachments" feature they should be able to use that function of vBulletin.

Other than that, a custom coded modification would have to be made that can associate the users phone email to their account, create a new thread for them, and post the images the send from their phone to that email account in a thread or forum.
