yup 3-6% or even 8% should be fine meaning our keyword should not appear more than 3 to 8 times per hundred words on a page.

Ofcourse if overused, can have a negative impact as far as search engine ranking is concerned.

Here's an article from my bookmarks over Keyword Density.

And a free Keyword Density Checker tool.

According to me,You can take keyword density up to 7%.I wouldn't bother building a script for it as you'd be better off concentrating on other metrics.

Hi,

it isn’t just about how many times a key work appears on a page. To gain the most from website SEO, the keywords have to be within relevant content. This means that the content relates directly to your business.I think 2-4 % keyword density is enough and not exceeding 10.

I am new in SEO but I have apprehend lots of blogs and articles on keyword density and got the abstraction that using 3-4 % density is absolutely good for SEO. It save our site from all spam.

Keyword density is the ratio, how many time you use your targeted keywords in your web page. It is standard 3%-5%. If you use more then the limit, your website content comes in Keyword stuffing. It is a Black Hat SEO technique. Search engines don't allow to use it. If your website will caught to use it, your website may be ban or penalize.
